In this brief but significant book, the authors, a grandfather-grandson team, explore how using positive psychology in everyday interactions can dramatically change our lives. Clifton (coauthor of Now, Discover Your Strengths) and Rath suggest that we all have a bucket within us that needs to be filled with positive experiences, such as recognition or praise. When we're negative toward others, we use a dipper to remove from their buckets and diminish their positive outlook. When we treat others in a positive manner, we fill not only their buckets but ours as well. Oh and you have a free code to do a strength test on the website. I'm not being exactly clear but it's included in the book.

good book, poor condition

book has a lot of good ideas and philosophies, could have been 4 or 5 stars. Book condition, 1 star and that was generous. there was a pocket in back that held small cards for an exercise(remember this was an educator's edition). The pocket had been opened and cant tell if all the pieces were there or not. There was also a "bargain bin" sticker on the front and signs that it had been at a going-out-of-business Big Lots for some time.

Clifton senior was a teacher of psychology at the University of Nebraska in the early 1950s when he noticed a problem: The field of psychology was based almost entirely on the study of what is wrong with people. This book is so wonderful, I ordered one for a gift already and expect to order more as the year goes by. It was an easy read - only a little over a 100 pages of actual reading. The rest is diagrams and worksheets to give you solid ideas for implementing the tools it's selling you.

The premise is simple (but not simplistic) yet thorough explanation of how focusing on the positives in our own personalities and those around us can change our world, and everyone's we come into contact with. Not too many hints here, because I can't say it anywhere near as well as the authors have.
